Two hours. It took two hours to convince the Chens that they should allow Angela to take their octopus daughter downtown to be near a dragon for some unknown length of time, and then figure out how to do so without killing May in the process. In the end Angela and Benson left the restaurant with the octopus in a large bucket full of saltwater and a portable pump that would be plugged in as soon as they could find a socket. The entire time, Angela was cursing herself because she hadn't thought of this earlier, and also hoping that Matt and Caleb didn't have sudden success in ridding downtown of the dragon scourge.

Candace called while they were in the car, Benson driving so Angela could sit in the backseat with the bucket and work out some logistics. "I have a location for you. There's a cafe that's within the evacuation zone managed by my cousin. It's as close as I can get you where you'll still have electricity. I'll text you the location. He'll meet you there in fifteen minutes if he can get past the cordon. If he can't, I'll have him call you."

"Thanks. Can you get in contact with the hip-hop dance group and let them know I probably won't be there this afternoon, and that they need to call me if they need help sooner than next week?" Angela thought about who was in that group. "Especially Ellie. If she's worried I can meet up with her sometime this weekend, or even whenever I get finished here tonight."

"Got it. And I'll get someone to cover the phones for a bit so I can swing by and pick up Lily after school."

Angela closed her eyes briefly. "Tell her I'm really, really sorry I won't be able to talk to her parents today. Hopefully she's okay with staying at my apartment again tonight." And hopefully CPS would be okay with her not getting in contact with them for a second day. She wanted to sit down with Lily's parents first before making everything official. She hung up the phone, crossing her fingers that this wasn't going to be a huge waste of time.

The car went over a pothole, water sloshing, then slowed at the barrier that had been hastily erected two days earlier. Fast talking by Benson and a flash of her badge got them through the outer barrier, and then she just held up her badge and Benson rolled past the inner cordon. Aside from a few emergency vehicles, the streets were deserted.

"We should evacuate this area more often," Angela said as they proceeded down the street unhindered by traffic. "This is the fastest I've ever made this drive." She looked out the window and tried to ignore the tingling of her skin. She would have known they were near the dragon even without the pall of smoke and smell of burning plastic. “There it is." She pointed, and Benson parked in the red zone right in front of the cafe.
